BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport system that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger, heavier assailant by using proper technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground, and then applying joint-locks and choke holds to defeat the opponent. Jiu Jitsu is widely considered the most useful form of self-defense, but it also has a competitive circuit. There are hundreds of different BJJ tournaments with the biggest being the IBJJF.
BEGINNERS
You are welcome here! We offer a free trial class if you are new to BJJ or Muay Thai. Appointments are available for all of our beginners classes, we only ask you to arrive 10-15 minutes before the class to sign the waiver and get ready.
INTERMEDIATE
Take a more in-depth look at the principles and techniques of BJJ. Situational attacks, high-level transitions, escapes, and offensive strategies are explored, in addition to a strong emphasis on instinctual application through live sparring. On the intermediate side, students are required to have at least 45 beginners classes first. No-gi classes are available after achieving 3 stripes on a white belt.
ADVANCED
Advanced classes are for blue belts and higher. This is ideal for students looking to improve in less common situations, and great for any students interested in competing. The rounds are longer, and the breaks are fewer in these classes.
WOMEN'S
JIU JITSU
Professor Allie Quinones creates an inclusive, welcoming, and empowering environment for women to learn and practice Jiu Jitsu. Whether you are a novice or expert, you can expect an atmosphere where women of all skill levels feel comfortable learning and safely training together. A typical class consists of a warm-up, technical instruction, partner drills and situational sparring. TRA is proud to have one of the largest growing and supportive women’s programs in the tri-state area!
OPEN MAT
Come in and drill techniques with your teammates or just do live rolls. Zone in on your personal strengths and weaknesses. There is no instruction at open mat, but don’t be surprised to see the instructors there rolling with the students.
